Through the assistance of technology, medicine, and a near-perfect?
Well yeah, of course, but you say that like those things are achievable. I suppose to be honest, I think its actually inevitable. EVENTUALLY well get to the bottom of the things that cause us to age and decay. Short of someone trying to cancel scientific thought, someone will start stumbling on those answers some day. It feels like we might be able to grab at it, but Im guessing that kind of technology wont be around for a few hundred more years. I also think that it will take some time before anyone feels comfortable with tackling the idea, even if technology allows it to be safe to do so. Mortality is an extremely sensitive issue. Mortality salience drives us to irrationality. Death is seen as almost necessary by many, as a way of allowing progress both biologically and philosophically. We better have a good way of colonizing local planets and moons by then, otherwise its going to get real interesting on earth when people have triple lifespans.
